In early August 2004, a number of families from Middlesbrough and Stockton will host a total of thirty children from the Chernobyl region of Belarus; the children visit Great Britain as a holiday and a respite – many of them suffer (directly or indirectly) from the after effects of the catastrophic nuclear accident in Chernobyl in 1986.
On Monday August 2nd the children will enjoy some arts workshops run by Kate Howard of Phoenix Arts – the arts and mental health collective supported by tees valley arts. In the workshops they will try a variety of visual arts techniques and will design and print two T-shirts – one to take back with them and one as a souvenir for their host families.
The workshops will take place in the Gallery Upstairs at Sam’s Place café on Linthorpe Road to whom we give thanks for their support.
