The Phoenix Art Group are a group of people who have come into contact with mental health issues that meet every Wednesday to produce art-work and some crafts.
In the last year they have had several exhibitions and sold quite a few of their craft items, with commissions from the local church and tees valley arts. One exhibition was at Sam’s Place, a café on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough that was so successful that the owner asked us the Group to extend the exhibition for a number of extra weeks.
This year they have planned out what projects they would like to do, when they are going to visit galleries and meet up for other events and exhibitions. Although Phoenix relies on funding they have shown that their ability is to a standard that they have raised over £500.00 from sales of their work and have generated an interest that supports cultural growth for the area, supports local artists and students in professional studies.
For the coming year Phoenix is calling for the assistance artists working in the Tees Valley to run workshops with the group.
