Oakdene Primary School pupils in Billingham are about to embark on an artistic journey into the Amazon Rainforest.
Working with tees valley arts Heritage Officer Joe Dunne, year 6 pupils will be creating colourful batiks on the theme of the Amazon Rainforest and its thousands of animal species.
Joe Dunne, Tees Valley Arts’ Heritage Officer explained,
“This will be a fun way for the children to raise their awareness of environment issues by working with an artist to create a permanent piece of art for the school that can also be used as a teaching tool.”
Liz Hopper, Head Teacher at Oakdene Primary School commented
“At Oakdene, we recognise that empowering our pupils to take responsibility for their own future is a crucial feature of their education. This pioneering approach of using the arts as a vehicle to help pupils understand our impact on the planet will encourage them to weigh up the evidence for themselves.”
