WorldFest celebrates diversity in the Tees Valley and showcases world class talent. It is brought to you by Tees Valley Arts in partnership with African Arts Association and Middlesbrough Council with special thanks to the Northern Rock Foundation.
Middlesbrough Town Hall has played host to Misty in Roots, Horace Andy, Aswad, the late great Gregory Isaacs, Tinariwen and Transglobal Underground as Festival headliners in previous years. This year’s WorldFest Gala Night on Friday 3rd June is bringing you the latin sounds of Orquesta Cache. Orquesta Cache’s passion for salsa music is infectious and gets both salsa enthusiasts and those new to the sensuous Cuban rhythms straight on the dance floor. Orquesta Cache are a lively and accessible outfit that bring a vibrant spark to all the different rhythms that make up Salsa – mambo, rumba, cha-cha, bomba, merengue, bolero…
Also playing a set will be Dennis Bovell and his Dub band, who were a great hit at WorldFest 2010. Dennis was the Creative Director of this year’s BBC4 sensational Reggae Britannia programme.
The evening will open with the Premiere of Tees Tides, a new piece of community music creatively led by Dennis Bovell; Tees Tides will be performed by up to a hundred local musicians and singers and will celebrate the River Tees and the goods, people and cultures that the waters carry in and out, which flow together to make up the history and identity of Teesside.
If you would like to take part as a singer or drummer please contact Rowena Sommerville or Maurice Dezou at Tees Valley Arts on 01642 264651.
Make a date in your diary for Friday 3rd June and look out for other events and dates.
