Tees Valley Arts are busy organising two fantastic events which are both free and which the public are warmly invited to come along and enjoy.
The first is the gala premiere performance of ‘Alchemy’, the brand new play by local playwright-made-good, Ishy Din, whose play ‘Snookered’ toured nationally and was on at the Bush theatre in London for a month last year, and who is now working with Theatre Royal Manchester and Channel 4 Television, among others. ‘Alchemy’ has been developed by Ishy, working with two supporting drama workers and with a group of young people from Teesside. ‘Alchemy’ will be premiered at Middlesbrough Myplace (the Custom House) on Thursday May 23rd, doors open at 7pm, and the performance will start at 7.30pm. ‘Alchemy’ will explore identity and history, focussed on the Gresham area of Middlesbrough.
The second is the WorldFest 2013 Community Event, which will feature original music performed by talented local young people, the second performance of ‘Alchemy’, delicious free food courtesy of Kilimanjaro’s restaurant, and then a get-up-and-shake-your-booty set from stunning London based Afro-Cuban collective Son Yambu. That’s at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt on Sunday June 2nd, doors open at 1.30pm for a 2.00pm start. Now that’s a Sunday afternoon it would be hard to beat!
