Our Studio Day in Chesterfield, 23rd Sept 2015 –

Amy and I have been working on a song for a while now and have finally reached the stage where we feel we are ready to record and develop it with outside help. We have written lyrics and also a simple instrumental. Yesterday we set off at around 10:30am to visit Steve Beighton’s studio in Chesterfield.
The journey was very long; however it was made faster as I had good company. We arrived there at around 12:30pm. On arrival we were shown several versions of our instrumental that had been created by Steve, he asked our opinion on each of the versions, my personal favourite was the layered version, however the stripped back piano version was very good also.
We then discussed how the song could be improved in regards to the instruments used and also discussed which instrument we felt would fit best on the instrumental. We recorded each of our verses and courses and reached a group decision that the song needed to be longer, so we decided to add lyrics over the already existing middle eight, and also to add a longer instrumental and also we decided to repeat the first verse before the final chorus. We then re-did some of our vocals until we were happy and we added some ad-libs and harmonies.
When we were happy that the song was the right length and had all of the right lyrics and sections we went on to again discuss the instrumental, which in the end we decided needs to be done by a guitar.
Over all I feel today went really well and I’m happy with the final product. I also feel that after some more studio work the song will be amazing. I look forward to working with Steve whenever I get the opportunity to do so in the future.
