World Book Day ’00

Cleveland Arts and Thornaby A Reading Town teamed up to celebrate World Book Day 2000 with a special event at Thornaby Library, Westbury Street for children from Thornaby Primary Schools on Friday 10th March to discover the world of the Inky Bloater…

Bob Beagrie and Maureen Almond held workshops exploring the magical world of the Inky Bloater. Bob explained:-

Not many people have heard of Inky Bloaters, because they are the cleverest creatures you’ll ever come across. The Inky Bloaters are the spirits that live inside books.

Whenever you are into a book, when you’re reading one really fast, there’s always a bloater racing down between the lines of the next page, who can jump all the big words and knows all the short cuts through the book.

They like to change the story the author wrote so that every reader reads a slightly different story. They believe in the Great Grand Writer who wrote all the books, although they’ve never seen him or her, but they have seen the angel librarians. That’s why librarians get angry when books aren’t returned, because it’s not just the book they care about, but the poor inky bloater!
