Through Making Time, TVA will provide creative workshops, training, support, events and installations which support the aims of wider prison reform.
What we’re doing
Tees Valley Arts is working in partnership with HM Prison Service in two local prisons, to offer prisoners creative activities, which will help them to develop new skills, personal confidence and positive ways of passing the time.
The artists recruited for this project will provide innovative, welcoming and totally inclusive weekly workshop sessions for prisoners; offering practical and creative skills, learning opportunities and ultimately leadership opportunities, giving attendees creative and emotional outlets, away from drugs and crime.
This pilot programme will look at the impact of the arts in helping prisoners to positively deal with negative feelings and improve mental health, reduce self-harming and drug abuse and sometimes even suicide.
