Extract from the Public Monuments & Sculpture Association:

Nine penguins stand on the seafront esplanade. Seven birds seem lost and surround a signpost which gives directions to local places and to the South Pole. Another two stand looking out to sea, apparently having found their way.

Commissioned by the former council as a ‘jolly’ addition to the new signpost erected on the seafront esplande,(1) the penguins were made to Wiles’s designs by a company who specialise in making customised litter bins, bollards and street furniture.(2)
