Buzzwords was set up in the autumn of ’97 with an Arts For Everyone Express Grant as a three year literature development project. Its aim was to provide that central information point and act as an umbrella for the disparate activities going on across Teesside, and to promote the use of creative writing and reading as a vehicle for communities and individuals of all ages.
Its key objectives were to provide a coherent identity for literature activity on Teesside:
- To expand audiences for creative writing and reading events.
- To increase accessibility and active participation in literature for all people of all ages.
- To bring international and national writers to the area to help develop the skills of local writers.
- To stimulate outlets for local writers to publish and perform their work.
- To develop employment and training opportunities for local writers.
- Provide support for local reading groups and promote reading.
